How much to pay, and when, and what it's all for....

Let me begin by saying that NO FAMILY IS TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS....I am happy to work with families on a sliding scale, do payment plans, accept barters, etc, if I am the right doula for your family, and to help connect you with a colleague if I'm not.

Birth Doula Package: base fee $1600 (**sliding scale and other options available; see above**)

  • $800 non-refundable retainer to secure your place on my calendar; remainder due at the first postpartum visit

  • on-call 24/7 from 2 weeks prior to your due date until your delivery (I am ALWAYS available to you if anything "birthy" is happening at any point after I'm hired, but I do reserve time away from my emails and texts for my family and my sanity)

  • access to all wee welcome resources

  • Wondering if hiring a birth doula is worth the money? Take a look here.

  • What does this package include?

    • 3 prenatal visits: topics covered may include team dynamics, birth preparation, labor coping tools, pain relief medications, Spinning Babies exercises, creating a birth plan, self-advocacy, what to pack?, postpartum/4th trimester preparation, lactation education, sibling preparation and more

    • labor and birth support: full physical, emotional and informational support during your entire labor and delivery and about 2 hours afterwardbirth photography (candids, photojournalistic style)

    • a  postpartum check-in visit 48-72 hours after baby's birth, and 8 hours of postpartum care to be used within the first 3 months of your wee one's life: this will take place on a negotiated basis depending on the needs of your family.

  • Jen, why do you structure your birth care this way? Working as an Open Arms doula, our standard of care is 3 prenatal visits. I appreciate that it allows me to connect more deeply with my clients, and ensures time for lactation education/sibling preparation, topics about which I am passionate. I appreciate the flexibility of this hours-based postpartum approach as opposed to a set number of postpartum visits, because you may not know before hand what you will need afterward! Perhaps it will be more frequent check-ins, perhaps it will be a longer visit so you can catch a nap, perhaps it will be a combo!

Postpartum Doula Work: base fee $35 hour/minimum 3 hour blocks (**sliding scale and other options available; see above**)

  • $210 non-refundable retainer to secure your place

  • schedule to be mutually determined based on the number of days and level of care you anticipate needing

  • retainer to be used for the final hours of our time together

  • invoicing done weekly on Wednesdays

  • Discounts available for blocks of hours purchased in advance: $400/12 hours, $650/20 hours

Lactation Education: base fee $100

  • Lactation Education is priced per visit, for both prenatal and postpartum families.

  • Prenatal: Your own private nursing prep class, specifically tailored to your needs, desires and body.

  • Postpartum: Help with latch and positioning, pumping and bottle feeding, and resources/referrals for further nursing assistance if needed.

It's the wee welcome Families-for-Families fund.

Why the range of fees? I work on a "sliding up" scale. Minimum fees are my BASE rates, and families are free to pay more for services that they feel were particularly excellent or went "above and beyond". Anything I collect above my base fee goes into the Families-for-Families fund.

The Families-for-Families fund helps offset the costs of pro bono or discounted birth work that I do within the community. This can be a volunteer birth through Open Arms, some postpartum hours that come through a community referral, or anything else where someone wants to access my service but isn't able to pay. NO FAMILY IS TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS.

Families who contribute are notified when their funds are used in the community. To date, wee welcome families have donated $2500 to the Families-for-Families fund.

For your convenience, you may pay online... and checks are great, because it means no added fees....
